In 2004, a 25 year old Japanese woman who had never been pregnant underwent an operation to remove a teratoma, a type of tumor that had grown to resemble a doll. This tumor contained a variety of tissues, including brain, eye, spinal nerve, ear, teeth, thyroid gland, bone, bone marrow, gut, trachea, and blood vessels, as well as other components.
