As a Knowledge Ninja, exploring the unseen world around us is our specialty. In the shadows, natural processes like decay play an essential role in recycling nutrients and maintain the balance of life. Today, we delve deep into the stages of decay (NSFW), which happens right under our noses but remains hidden from sight.

Decay, decomposition or rotting is a series of biochemical reactions breaking down dead organic matter into simpler compounds. Falling into five stages – fresh, bloat, active decay, advanced decay, and dry remains – the process is orchestrated by various decomposers, including bacteria, fungi, and insects.

In the initial stages, autolysis, the breakdown of cells by enzymes, and putrefaction, due to bacteria inside the body, set things in motion. The bloat stage witnesses gases produced from anaerobic bacterial activity, causing the body to inflate with characteristic odors. The circle of life goes on as insects, especially ninja-like flies and beetles, lay eggs on the deceased, with their larvae feeding ravenously, and transition into the active decay stage.

Advanced decay unveils a remarkable transformation, as the mass dwindles, though expect occasional surprise events like bursts or collapses. Dry remains, the last stage, leaves only bones and fragments, soon becoming one with the soil.

Among life’s mysteries, the stages of decay represent a natural cycle, reminding us ninjas to step cautiously and respect the ever-present forces of life… and death.
